ScoutmasterDave is a weekly videocast. Each videocast is a short 3-minute segment focusing on a specific scouting topic.
Show Notes:
- Bobwhites are cool little birds that are one of the patrol critters of Woodbadge program. In Woodbadge you are assigned a critter, and your patrol supports and defends their critter from the other critters, which include Beaver, Bobwhite, Eagle, Fox, Owl, Bear, Buffalo and Antelope.
- All scouts deserve a trained leader. See what training you need for your specific position from the BSA.
- Cool Axe & Log T-shirts.

Welcome to my videocast.
I’m Dave and I’m a scoutmaster on Long Island in the state of New York.
This videocast focuses on everything to do about scouting in short segments. If you’ve been in scouting for any amount of time you’ll see that every troop and council does things a little different, and that different doesn’t have to mean bad, or good for that matter.
The goal of this cast is to put some information out there on what works for me, in my troop, my troop, and in some cases my council and state.
Many of you out there don’t attend council events, trainings, and programs or even do the online training past the required youth protection. This isn’t meant to replace any of that. This is meant to pass along some tips and tricks that might work for you.
This is all about what works for me. Your mileage may vary.
As background, have been in scouting for over 14 years, I’m the father of an Eagle Scouts, and I am currently scoutmaster of my troop, and have been for over 6 years. Prior to that I was the CubMaster of our local pack, and I was for over 6 years.
I’ve taken all the standard trainings for my positions, OA Brotherhood member, have taken Woodbadge, and am a proud bobwhite. I also have been running our council’s Spring Camporee for over 300 participants for 7 years.
So, I’d like to welcome you aboard. If you like what I say, tell someone about it, or try it in your own troop or pack. If you don’t, or do things differently, I’d like to hear that too, but this is what works for us.
Take what you like and leave the rest, and as we say in Woodbadge, feedback is a gift, leave yours below in the comments, with the hope we can all learn together.
I’m Scoutmaster Dave, and this was welcome to my videocast.
Hello
Really like your videos. I created a Facebook page called The Troop Scribe, where I get great scouting content (blogs, video blogs, podcasts, images etc) and help share it to more people. Please shoot me a line, I’d like to have you videos up there.
